When I read Marina’s submission I knew these poems had a fun, free indie pop sound. As the episode formed, so did a vibrant image: peonies, greedy little bees, and a clear blue sky. This episode sounds like a winter dream of a far off hot, sunny day. A gem of hope to carry through the cold.
Hi, it’s Cara. Welcome to the sunshine lounge: a feel-good mix of today’s music and poetry. Today you’ll hear a mix of sweet and sunny indie pop with poems by Marina Ramil.
Marina Ramil (any pronouns) has work in Stoneboat, South Florida Poetry Journal, OxMag, Astrolabe, and elsewhere. They are from Miami, FL with the alligators and strangler figs.
So unclench your jaw, take a deep breath, and settle in for golden hour in the sunshine lounge.
Hot sun. Sunscreen smell. A field of wild daisies in tall green grass.
Buzzing bees and fat June bugs. The percussion on this song is incredible, especially about halfway through.
“The train only goes so far before turning on its heel and returning to the station.”
That saxophone solo!
This song is bright pink. Skirts twirling giddy circles. Throat sting of lemonade.
“I would like to take the scissors from her manicured hands and cut all the hair from my head.” This poem was originally published in New Feathers Anthology.
This song has been in my song pool since 2022, waiting patiently for the right time. It’s bright, warm. Like lounging in the sun.
Bright orange and yellow, rich earth tones. Clapping hands, smiles, and swift feet. This song is a party for my ears.
“In the moments before, more stars than you can imagine reflect off my wide, side-set eyes.”
Sweet tribute.
“how we could end up and how we lose”
We come and go in a blink, cyclically. This is life.
Sweet correspondence and little rituals of love. Originally published in The Zinnia Journal.
Blissful presence. Gratitude.
Sun begins to set. Shadows stretch. The air trades its warmth for the chill of dusk. A dazzling sunset.
“a reminder life can and will somehow be beautiful.” This poem was originally published in The Zinnia Journal.

Those last sun rays slip past the horizon. This day finds its end. The next peony buds to bloom find their beginning.
This was an actual pocketful of sunshine omg <3
